Dance at Uckfield Community Technology College
Dance at UCTC is taught to all year groups in Key stage 3. Students are given the opportunity to study a wide range of Dance styles from Disco dancing in Year 7 to Street Dance in Year 9. We also learn about different cultures through Dance. For example, we use dance styles form Africa and India which allows students to appreciate different countries dances and cultural differences. All students develop their performance and choreographic skills. There are dance clubs which run at lunchtimes and after school for all year groups. Year 9 gifted and talented students have the opportunity to join our Junior Vision Dance company which performs within school and in the local community.
At key stage 4 Dance is a popular GCSE option. Students build on the skills they have learned at Key stages 3 and are introduced to current professional Dance works and choreographers. They also develop their own compositional and performance skills. GCSE students are invited to join our Senior Vision Dance Company who work with a wide range of professional artists and perform in school and out in the wider community.
Our 6th form students can choose to study Dance at A/S and A/2 level. This is a more intense course where students build on the skills they have learned at Key stages 3 and 4 but also learn about the History of Dance and Anatomy. Students develop their leadership skills through assisting with younger students dance clubs or Vision Dance Companies.
UCTC’s Dance Department offers a wide range of dance trips to see professional works and opportunities to perform within school including our successful annual dance production. Current and previous students have performed in local pantomines and the west end .
