First Aid and Student Health/Welfare Information

 Overdue Library Books 

The LRC currently has 446 books that are overdue by two months or more, as well as many others overdue. The replacement value of these books runs into several thousands of pounds. Please ensure all LRC books are returned asap. NOTE - as in previous years, Year 11 students will not be able to obtain Prom tickets unless they have returned their books. Thanks

 Measles 

The Health Protection Agency have asked us to send out the following information regarding a student at the college who is recovering from measles. Please see this letter for parents and an information sheet which we hope you will find useful.

 Trans Pennine Charity Walk  

Carol and Ria Nelms are taking part in the Trans Pennine Trek over the weekend of 22nd/23rd June.  This involves walking 100k from Manchester and ending at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.  They are raising money for Cancer Research UK and would appreciate any donations no matter how large or small!  They have a justgiving page - the link is here if you would like to support them in this great effort.

 Science GCSE Parents Meeting  

There will be a meeting for parents and carers of students sitting GCSE Science exams this summer on Thursday 16th May. More information here.

 Field Trip Information  

Year 10 Field trip to Juniper Hall - information regarding the trip may be found here: Juniper Hall Field Centre. Students going on the trip will be leaving immediately after last lesson on Friday 10th May and returning by 3.00 pm on Sunday 12th May. 

 Beginners drummers sessions  

A chance for students to experience drumming and then sign up for the full course for next term. Two sessions will run on Saturday May 11th from 1-3 and Saturday May 18th 1- 3pm. For more information please contact Clare Summons

 Changes to January A Levels  

Last November Ofqual announced that from September (2013) students in England will no longer be able to sit A-level exams in January. Students who start their courses from September 2013 will only be able to sit AS and A-level exams in the summer. For more information please see Changes to Sitting Dates for A Levels

  Warning of fraudulent demands  

  for payment to parents  

Education authorities been alerted that a parent at an Essex school received a phone call purporting to be from the Education Welfare Service stating that their child had not attended school that day and as a result they had to pay a fine of £340. The parent was asked to provide her credit/debit card details so that a payment could be made over the phone.

 Free School Meals 

Are you missing out? There are nearly 63000 pupils in East Sussex, however only 8500 children currently receive free school meals. There could be many more. Please see our Free School Meals page for  more information and how to apply.

 Keeping children who work safe this winter  

In an attempt to reduce accidents amongst young people who do newspaper rounds,  East Sussex County Council has issued a press release which has recently been in local newspapers and on local radio stations. Click here to see the press release. 
Plans are now underway for Child Employment Fortnight 2013 when they hope to be able to visit schools and talk to the pupils about their first experiences in a work place, undertaking part time paid employment.  The dates for your diaries are 18 - 29 March 2013, further information will follow shortly.

 Yr 11 Together to Achieve 

In supporting our students we provide a wide range of revision materials via Moodle. They are able to access information about learning style and techniques as well as a full range of subject based revision materials. In addition there are other supporting guides and material listed in the Yr 11 Together To Achieve section under the Our Curriculum tab above.

  Invitation to all parents  

Dear Parents and Carers.  I hold a Parents surgery on the first Monday of every month from 5pm to 7pm. No appointments necessary. Please feel free to pop in to my office, it is close to Reception. The purpose of it is to give you an opportunity to discuss wider school developments on a one to one basis and to have your views heard on how we can make our College even better.
