On the 9th March Year 12 participated in a Holocaust Study Day. The day focused on educating students about what happened during the Holocaust and on reflecting on how this affects us today. Students spend the first part of the morning learning about the events leading up to the Holocaust and how the Jews and others were persecuted throughout Germany and German-occupied territory. For the second part of the day students were able to listen to a Holocaust survivor; Dorit Oliver-Wolff.
Dorit has visited the school before and, as always, captivated the students with the account of her childhood spent living in fear and running away from the Nazis. She spoke with great passion and wit, making us laugh as well as making us all reflect on the injustice of this period of history for those it affected. After speaking many students had questions for Dorit and many others made the most of the opportunity to speak to her afterwards and thank her for her time.
Students finished the day by looking at other examples of genocide, working in groups to investigate what happened and to think about the huge impact of these events. All in all it was a fantastic day and one in which all the staff and students involved took a lot from.
