On Thursday the 4th of July, four representatives of Uckfield Community Technology College Sixth form travelled up to London to take part in a Model United Nations General Assembly (MUNGA) day held at King’s College London. The event was organised by the United Nations Association (UNA) and the British Institute for International Studies (BISA) and was attended by over 100 students from across the UK, including UCTC’s Amelia Johnson, Giulia Lima Bianchi, Jesse Coleman and Isabella Wilson.
A Big Day Out indeed! It was hot...32 degrees! but over 400 young people from 9 local primary schools, supported by parents and teachers, brothers and sisters, led by Batucada and Spiritus, turned the High Street into a parade to be proud of. The best yet. The primary school makes were all designed by Arts Award students at UCTC and the workshops led by UCTC. Stars all round
The annual kit car grand prix - in its 11th year - saw 22 Primary School teams competing on Sunday 14th July at the circuit at TR fastenings site in Uckfield. The event lived up to expectations with exciting wheel to wheel action with Newick School emerging as winners - a first for them, with Little Horsted in second place and Rocks Park third.
UCTC students have excelled in this year's Biology Challenge run by the Society of Biology. Over 30 000 students took the test this year. In total our students gained 23 medals - Tobias Harris gained a Gold but other students in both Year 9 and 10 gained Silver and Bronze.
Lily Smith of 10i is captain of Lewes FC U16 girls football team. This season Lily has captained them winning the Sussex League and the Sussex League Cup. As the winners of the Sussex League they were invited to play in the ACES National Tournament on Sunday 7th July in Leicester against all the best teams in England. Lily again lead the side to win the Tournament, so they are now National Champions! Fantastic result and a huge well done to the team and Lily.
Congratulations to our Butler cup chess team who once again won this year's under-14 Sussex Chess inter-school competition. Allan Strong of UCTC, in support of his partner Keetje who has cancer, will be undertaking a fundraising sleepwalk to raise money for the St Peter and St James Hospice, near Haywards Heath. She will increasingly need the help of this loving, caring place as time progresses.
We have a vast amount of unclaimed uniform and sports kit in our lost property. Unfortunately all the items are without a name label. We are unable to store this volume of clothing and as a consequence will dispose of these items on Friday 29th November. If your child has lost any items of uniform or PE kit, please ask them to check lost property prior to the end of the day on Thursday 28th November. Thank you for your assistance in this matter
Students in Years 8 and 9 have been issued with raffle tickets. Please can stubs and monies, or unsold tickets be returned this week. The raffle is usually a very good fundraiser for the PTA. In the past this has funded new equipment in P.E., the new Pole Barn in the Garden, Eco club, the piano refurbishment and a whole range of extra curricular opportunities that would not otherwise be possible.
Important Safety Notice for students travelling to/from UCTC
As the mornings and afternoons are getting darker we are concerned that some of our students are walking to and from College along rural roads without ensuring they are visible to traffic on the roads.
We have received a telephone call from a very concerned local taxi driver who came close to colliding with two students who were walking home on a narrow unlit road, and felt the need to draw the potential danger to our attention.
We urge you to ensure that all students who may be vulnerable to traffic wear some form of reflective clothing or tag on their outer clothes or bag, and if possible carry a small torch. Many coats and bags incorporate a reflective strip, but if not a wide selection of products are available for a minimal cost, including small flashing LED lights. It is also important students are aware they should walk facing the traffic.
Thank you for your help and support in ensuring our students are safe on their journeys to and from College.

Invitation to all parents
Dear Parents and Carers. I hold a Parents surgery on the first Monday of every month from 5pm to 7pm. No appointments necessary. Please feel free to pop in to my office, it is close to Reception. The purpose of it is to give you an opportunity to discuss wider school developments on a one to one basis and to have your views heard on how we can make our College even better.
These Surgeries are in addition to our regular Parents' Forums, which is where we meet groups of parents. I look forward to seeing you at one of these dates.
