End of term arrangements:

End of Term: Friday July 21st at 1.20pm. All students to attend period 1 to 4 and be dismissed at 1.20pm. School buses will be changed so students can get home. Please note that the school canteen will not be open for lunch.

Start of Term 1: Tuesday September 5th
Year 7: Start at 9.20am - please do not arrive earlier than this
Year 8-13 start at 9am
All year groups year 7-13 end at normal school time 3.25pm

The UCTC (Eco Club) Christmas tree went up this morning for the Festival of Christmas Trees at Church of the Holy Cross, Uckfield. The tree, together with many others, are on show at the church on Friday 9th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December 2011.

Eight UCTC students represented the school at a Sussex Chess Tournament on Sunday 27th November. The school team came 2nd overall, narrowly missing out on claiming first place. Well done UCTC chess players!

Dear parents & Guardians

It's that time of year again and we are serving Christmas dinners to students and staff at the college, the details are below, if you son or daughter would like a Christmas Dinner they need to purchase a ticket prior to the day of their lunch from any of the catering tills, this can be done either with cash or by using their parentpay account credit.

If your child has free school meals, they will be issued with a ticket on request no payment will be required.

Forthcoming event held by Autism
Support Network Lewes on Thursday 17th November in Lewes at the Phoenix
Centre on the topic of

"Nutrition and Health in Autistic Spectrum Disorders"

The talk will be given by Clinical Nutritionist Jon Tommey from the Autism
Clinic and is a rare chance for parents to gain more insight and
understanding into their children's underlying biomedical issues and the
gut-brain connection.

Art Textiles Skills Workshop

On the 8th of October the textile department ran a the first of 3 workshops where a Textile Artist is invited in for the day. On this occasion Cas Holmes came in to instruct teachers and students. Cas is a local artist working in the area of textiles and mixed media. She produces works for art galleries, public spaces and sells to individual collectors. On Saturday we found that she did an astounding job of taking each of us out of our comfort zone and getting us to work in areas that we had never considered before.

Simon Toyne visits UCTC

On Monday 17th October 2011 Simon Toyne, author of ‘Sanctus’, visited UCTC’s media studies and English language students of year 12 and 13. ‘Sanctus’ is Simon’s first novel from the thrilling new trilogy. His book has been published in many different countries in lots of languages. He took a degree in English and Drama at Goldsmith’s college in London, despite originally wanting to be an actor he then went into writing screenplays, but as Simon said whatever you want to do in television you will always start at the bottom, so he began making tea.
