Open Evening for New Students - Year 6 into Year 7

An excellent opportunity to tour and explore the college, meet teachers and students and gain a real understanding of who we are and what we do here at UCTC. There will be a host of displays of work and also lots of activities for prospective students to participate in. It will be both highly informative and fun!

New arrivals at UCTC

Eco club are proud to announce the arrival of 5 piglets on Wednesday 19th September. Mum and piglets are all doing well.

Gloria, our British Saddleback sow, only arrived at UCTC at the beginning of term and has already given birth to 5 healthy piglets. And our guinea pigs, not to be outdone, have also just produced two babies, Nessie and Mabel - Mum is Hyacinth, Dad is Bob. For more pictures and information please click on read more.

Tech and Imagineering clubs

On Tuesdays after school students from years 7 and 8 can come along to our Tech Club, where they will experience the design process and learn enterprise skills by working to a real-world brief. On Fridays after schools our Imagineering club runs for students from years 7-10 for all those budding engineers keen to become involved in problem solving and making working devices. Year 8 Girls HPV Vaccination (human papillomavirus vaccination)

As you may be aware there is a national vaccination programme aimed at reducing the incidence of cervical cancer. This is offered to Year 8 girls across the country and older year group girls, who may have missed out in previous years. (continued)

Well Done the Class of 2007!

GCSE results at Uckfield Community Technology College have made a significant improvement this year. The percentage of students achieving 5A*-C grades rose from 69% in 2011 to 83% in 2012 and the percentage of students gaining 5A*-C including English and Maths GCSE rose from 63% in 2011 to over 67% in 2012.

Overdue Library Books

The LRC currently has 446 books that are overdue by two months or more, as well as many others overdue. The replacement value of these books runs into several thousands of pounds. Please ensure all LRC books are returned asap. NOTE - as in previous years, Year 11 students will not be able to obtain Prom tickets unless they have returned their books. Thanks

Measles

The Health Protection Agency have asked us to send out the following information regarding a student at the college who is recovering from measles. Please see this letter for parents and an information sheet which we hope you will find useful.

Trans Pennine Charity Walk

Carol and Ria Nelms are taking part in the Trans Pennine Trek over the weekend of 22nd/23rd June. This involves walking 100k from Manchester and ending at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. They are raising money for Cancer Research UK and would appreciate any donations no matter how large or small! They have a justgiving page - the link is here if you would like to support them in this great effort.

Science GCSE Parents Meeting

There will be a meeting for parents and carers of students sitting GCSE Science exams this summer on Thursday 16th May. More information here.

Field Trip Information

Year 10 Field trip to Juniper Hall - information regarding the trip may be found here: Juniper Hall Field Centre. Students going on the trip will be leaving immediately after last lesson on Friday 10th May and returning by 3.00 pm on Sunday 12th May.

Beginners drummers sessions

A chance for students to experience drumming and then sign up for the full course for next term. Two sessions will run on Saturday May 11th from 1-3 and Saturday May 18th 1- 3pm. For more information please contact Clare Summons

Changes to January A Levels

Last November Ofqual announced that from September (2013) students in England will no longer be able to sit A-level exams in January. Students who start their courses from September 2013 will only be able to sit AS and A-level exams in the summer. For more information please see Changes to Sitting Dates for A Levels

Warning of fraudulent demands

for payment to parents

Education authorities been alerted that a parent at an Essex school received a phone call purporting to be from the Education Welfare Service stating that their child had not attended school that day and as a result they had to pay a fine of £340. The parent was asked to provide her credit/debit card details so that a payment could be made over the phone.

The Education Welfare Service never phone parents demanding payment immediately over the phone. Any such demands for payments should be ignored and reported immediately.

Free School Meals

Are you missing out? There are nearly 63000 pupils in East Sussex, however only 8500 children currently receive free school meals. There could be many more. Please see our Free School Meals page for more information and how to apply.

Invitation to all parents

Dear Parents and Carers. I hold a Parents surgery on the first Monday of every month from 5pm to 7pm. No appointments necessary. Please feel free to pop in to my office, it is close to Reception. The purpose of it is to give you an opportunity to discuss wider school developments on a one to one basis and to have your views heard on how we can make our College even better.

These Surgeries are in addition to our regular Parents' Forums, which is where we meet groups of parents. I look forward to seeing you at one of these dates.
